ChessApp

Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 15, 2026

ChessApp is free, contains no advertising, and has no commercial purpose. This policy explains simply and transparently how we handle data when you use the app.
Section 1

Data controller

ChessApp

Section 2

Data we collect

ChessApp collects only the minimum data necessary to function:

  • Location data (approximate or precise, depending on your permission choice), used only to show local tournaments.
  • A push notification token, used only to send notifications about tournament updates.

We do not collect your name, email address, account credentials, contacts, photos, advertising ID, analytics identifiers, or any other personal information.

Section 3

Purpose of processing

Data is processed solely for:

  • Showing tournaments relevant to your region.
  • Sending notifications about tournament changes you follow.

Data is never used for advertising, profiling, analytics, or any commercial purpose.

Section 4

Legal basis

Location data is processed based on your explicit consent via the Android permission prompt. You may withdraw this consent at any time in your device settings.

The notification token is processed on the basis of our legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR) in delivering tournament update notifications you have chosen to receive.

Section 5

Data retention

Location data is not stored; it is used only at the moment of the request to determine nearby tournaments.

Notification tokens are retained only as long as you use the app and have notifications enabled. They are deleted when you uninstall the app or disable notifications.

Section 6

Sharing with third parties

We do not sell your data.

For delivering push notifications, we may use a standard notification service (such as Firebase Cloud Messaging), which receives only the anonymous device token required to deliver the message. These providers are contractually or technically restricted from using the token for their own purposes.

Data may also be disclosed if required by law or court order.

Section 7

Your rights

Under applicable data protection law (including GDPR), you may have the right to request access, rectification, erasure, or objection in relation to personal data we process.

Because we store very limited information (primarily notification tokens) and do not maintain user accounts, it may not always be possible to identify you individually. If you have a specific concern, please contact us and we will do our best to assist.

To exercise any of these rights, write to: support.chessapps@gmail.com. We will respond within 30 days.

Revoking location permission

You can withdraw location access at any time via Settings → Apps → ChessApp → Permissions on your Android device. Revoking this permission does not affect core app functionality, but location-based tournament suggestions may no longer be available.

Section 8

Security

Reasonable technical and organisational measures are in place to protect data against unauthorised access, alteration, or disclosure. No method of transmission over the internet is fully secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Section 9

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent version. For material changes, we will notify you via an in-app notice.
